Here are a few pointers on where to start your ATV tire search:
Understand Ply Rating: The ply rating is the overall strength of the ATV tire. The higher the ply rating, the tougher the tire. Expect to pay more for 6 and 7-ply rated tires compared to 2 or 3-ply tires, but also expect less flats.
The ply rating doesn't always means there's that many plies in the tire. In the past, a 3-ply tire had 3 plies. Today, technology makes it possible for an ATV tire with 3 plies to match the strength of an ATV tire with 6 plies. Ply ratings are still useful when looking at different tires within a brand. A 6-ply ATV tire from Brand X will be tougher than a 3-ply ATV tire from Brand X.
Understanding Star Rating: Stars correspond with an ATV tire's maximum operating pressure.
Finding the Right Tread: An all-terrain vehicle is designed to get you through tough terrain, so long as you have the right tires installed. Choose from standard A/T tires for general purpose riding, mud tires with a directional tread for pushing through mud, sand tires with paddles for dunes and beaches, or racing tires for high-speed trails.
Finding Your Tire Size: ATV tire size is displayed on the sidewall as height x width-wheel diameter. It's recommended you stick with the stock size chosen by the manufacturer unless you're looking for certain performance benefits and understand the pros and cons of changing size. Check your owner's manual for more information.

Lawn and garden tires can last for years with proper care, but eventually you'll need to change them. Here are two signs that it's time for new tires:
1) Low Tread: Bald tires and tires with low tread won't perform as well and can't provide the traction you need on the ground - especially after rain. You may even damage your lawn if there's no tread left.
Tip: Check the tread depth of your tires with an upside down penny in one of the grooves. If you see Lincoln's head completely, start shopping for replacements.
2) Dry Rot: If you notice dry rot or sidewall cracking, change your tires. Dry rot causes tires to lose air pressure and can cause a tire blowout.
Tip: Prevent dry rot by storing tires out of the sun in a clean area. It's also a good idea to avoid cleaning products with harsh chemicals when cleaning your equipment and to make sure your tire pressure is at the correct level.
When shopping for replacement tires, make sure to get a tire able to support the weight of your equipment. A tire’s ply rating will inform you of how much weight it can support. The larger the ply number, the more weight the tire can hold. Our sales staff is available for assistance if you have any questions.
